Wheelies news since 2013

Friday 1 January 2016

2016, an exciting year to look forward to!

"Rain, Rain, go away, come again another day".  The eve of 2015 was definitely one of the wettest New Year's Eve of recent years. The rain however did not deter as many of the wheeling groups still organised their wheeling sessions to usher in the New Year.

Not this Rain la!!!
New Year's Eve is a day where friends and families gather and is associated with a joyous spirit and grand merriment. People usher in the New Year with sheer optimism and great faith, to mark a fresh beginning in their lives. For The Wheelies, its a beginning of another exciting year of wheeling in 2016.

For a start, The Wheelies will be participating in Chingay 2016 in February. Chingay Parade is the largest street performance and float parade in Asia and the annual show is broadcast to millions around the world. The Wheelies will continue to work hard in our rehearsals so that during the actual day, we can show the world that not only the Electric Unicycle is portable and nimble, its also a viable personal last mile transportation device.

Due to an overwhelming participation in our Safety Day workshop as well as many had written in to request for us to hold the event again, we will be conducting more Safety Day workshops this year. This free event will be opened for all Electric Unicycle enthusiasts.

As our partnership with People's Association is gathering pace, we will be working with them to organise more electric unicycle courses at various community centres around Singapore. We will also be working closely with them in their road shows so that we can bring electric unicycling to the grassroots. More instructors will also be deployed in these events so that every residents can have an opportunity to try out the unicycle.

In 2015, The Wheelies had organised many wheeling outings such as Kuala Lumpur Car Free Day, Pulau Ubin, The Green Corridor, Journey to the West, Prison Break, St John's Island, Lazarus Island and many more. We will be committed to organise even more trips for the group in 2016. e.g. Pengarang, Green Corridor Night Trail, Bintan, Pulau Ubin Night trail etc.

Come Saturday 5 March 2016, the Wheelies will be rolling across 81km to commemorate The Salvation Army’s 81st Anniversary and to raise funds for a great cause. This is the first time that the Wheelies are embarking on a endurance ride covering 81km across Singapore. Four teams of electric unicycle enthusiasts will kick off from The Salvation Army’s social centres, namely Gracehaven, The Haven, Family Support Services and Peacehaven Nursing Home. The teams will ride, from different routes, to the final meeting point at Red Shield Industries Tanglin Family Hub as part of the efforts to raise funds for Salvation Army.

The Wheelies also visited Gracehaven in 2015. Gracehaven is a residential home for young people who require care, protection and rehabilitation. With efforts and donation from the members, not only did we contribute necessities such as toothbrush, toothpaste, milos and biscuits, we also brought along our wheels to teach and impart the skills of wheeling to the children. As this project was a roaring success and the feedback was extremely positive, The Wheelies will be visiting more charities in 2016 to spread our love.

The Wheelies is also committed to bringing in safe and reliable wheels for the Singapore market. Many other sellers have cut corners by bringing in low cost wheels. To the layman, they all looked the same from the outside. However, based on our experience, these wheels are poorly constructed with a high risk of machine failure (gyro burned, battery explosion or power cut) and this is not how the Wheelies wants the industry to be perceived. There were other incidents where sellers used creative pricing to misled buyers into believing that they are paying for a cheaper product only to end up with a hefty bill. THIS IS NOT WHAT WE REPRESENT! For the industry to grow and electric unicycle to be picked up by the masses, there must be high level of professionalism and quality must be assured. In a classic David vs Goliath, we will continue to punch above our weight and make sure consumers' interest remains our top priority.

As part of us gathering your feedback, our buyers can now go to the following resellers to try out the unicycle.
